Location
The plant is located on Iceland's more developed West Coast about 45 kilometers northwest of the capital city of Reykjavik. Iceland is a member of the European Free Trade Association
Reduction Plant

- 520 Pre-Bake cells
- Current capacity of 260,000 tonnes per year (mtpy)
- Alumina and anodes are imported.
- Casthouse casts ingots and sows.
Power Supplies
- Power is supplied from geothermal and hydro sources under contracts that extend to 2019 and 2026; rates are indexed to London Metal Exchange (LME) prices for primary aluminum.
Metal Sales
Metal is sold under three LME-based tolling agreements. 130,000 mtpy is sold to BHP Billiton under a contract that extends through 2013; 90,000 mtpy is sold to Glencore under a contract that extends through 2016; 40,000 mtpy is sold to Glencore under a contract that extends through 2014.
